Workshop Objective
The objective of this program was to enable participants to move from static planning documents to shared clarity of intent, ensuring alignment and execution effectiveness on the ground. The workshop focused on strengthening planning as a thinking discipline rather than a procedural exercise, helping participants understand why well-structured plans often fail in manufacturing environments due to lack of clarity and alignment.
Key focus areas included:
- Understanding the distinction between planning, intent, and execution
- Defining “clear intent” in operational contexts and its role in driving execution outcomes
- Translating planning into actionable direction through:
- Clarity of goals and expected outcomes
- Defining measurable success criteria
- Ensuring stakeholder alignment across functions
- Challenging underlying assumptions in plans
- Identifying constraints, risks, and dependencies
- Evaluating feasibility, trade-offs, and alternative approaches (Plan B)
Workshop Summary
This 4-hour virtual workshop was designed as a focused, application-led intervention for plant-facing teams, emphasizing execution realism in manufacturing environments. The session combined structured facilitation with interactive discussions, scenario-based exercises, and real-world operational contexts to help participants rethink how planning translates into action. The learning approach centered on breaking down conventional planning habits and rebuilding them into intent-driven, execution-aligned practices.
Key Highlights:
- Hands-on exercises to distinguish between “plan on paper” and “plan in action” within manufacturing scenarios
- Real-world case reflections on why planning fails in plant environments — including misalignment, assumption gaps, and unclear ownership
- Simulation-based activities to test planning robustness under operational constraints and uncertainties
- Identification of common behavioural gaps such as implicit assumptions, lack of alignment, and diffusion of accountability
- Practical frameworks to strengthen planning discipline through clarity, alignment, and ownership mapping
- Group discussions to align planning intent across cross-functional stakeholders in plant operations
- Tools to evaluate feasibility, risks, and alternative execution pathways before plan finalization
- Individual takeaways focused on improving planning conversations, execution clarity, and decision accountability at the workplace
